Exclusive Villas on the beautiful island of Grenada |
Travillas has an exciting selection of Grenada Villas and Grenada Apartments for you to choose from. Known as the Isle of Spice, Grenada is the most southerly of the Windward islands, crisscrossed by nature trails and filled with spice plantations and tropical forests. Along some 80 miles of glorious coastline there are 65 bays and 45 white sandy beaches, many of which are totally secluded. Grand Anse is the most popular beach, with around 2 miles of curved bay and clear blue waters. It is just ten minutes drive from St.George's, the picturesque capital, with its pretty harbour, steep hills and fascinating side streets. A trip to the colourful Saturday market, where the pungent aroma of spices fills the air, is a must. |
| What to see in Grenada Taking the coast road north from St. George's, passing banana trees, bamboo, tropical flowers and soaring mountains you will come to Concord Falls (you will need to be reasonably fit as it is about an hour's hike to the spectacular main waterfall). Then onto the edge of the town of Gouyave where you come across the Dougaldston Estate - a spice factory where you can see cocoa, nutmeg and cinnamon amongst others, laid out to dry. Old women shuffle through them barefooted so that they dry evenly. A short drive on, stop at Morne Fendue (an old Plantation House) for superb West Indian Cuisine and the best rum punch on the Island.
On the east Coast you have Grand Bacolet Bay, a jagged peninsula where the Atlantic surf pounds onto deserted beaches. A few miles further north you will come across Grenville, Grenada's second largest city, where you can watch the Schooners setting sail for nearby islands. From here take the only paved road across the Island, winding upwards through the rain forest towards the Grand Etang National Park, a bird sanctuary and forest reserve with a 13 acre blue lake, the crater of an extinct volcano. | |
| What to do in Grenada If you have had enough of laying on the sun drenched beaches why not play a round of golf at The Grenada Golf and Country Club in Grand Anse - a nine hole course with low rates. Try a spot of deep sea fishing - half or full day where you may catch marlin, tuna or dolphin. You can also have a boat trip to Carriacou or the Grenadines; and the more energetic could try some diving or snorkelling at the Spice Island Marine Services, an excellent area with hundreds of varieties of fish and coral to be seen. | |
